Bagamoyo Port
A proposed $10 billion deep-water port on Tanzania's coast, first announced in 2013.
The project has been suspended, revived, reportedly sold, and re-announced several times since 2013 — most recently with a construction agreement signed in December 2025. As of September 2026, physical construction has still not been independently confirmed to have started.
This site tracks the project on the record: every announcement, every denial, and everything that remains unverified, each dated so it stays true no matter when you're reading it.
Start with the full chronology, 2013–present — it's the page that explains everything else here. For a shorter, dated answer to "is anything happening right now," see construction status. The project also includes a separate industrial zone — see the Special Economic Zone — and takes its name from a town with its own, much older history.
